THE HISTORY
The Reid Mansion is a historical home built circa 1892. The home was built on the highest point in Columbia Falls enabling it to escape the fires and floods that destroyed many other historical buildings. It is one of the oldest standing homes in Columbia Falls and the surrounding Flathead Valley. The builder of the home, Henry Miller, was an important part of the community lending his carpentry talents to the completion of Glacier Lodge (now known as Lake McDonald Lodge). He served in the civil war from 1964-1965 with the 12th Iowa Infantry Co. He served as Justice of the Peace and was on many community committees. Henry, his wife Esther 3 daughters and son lived in Columbia Falls and surrounding area until the 20's. When he passed the property was taken over by his youngest daughter Alice Reid. They occupied the home until the 1950's. The piano in the home has been there for over 70 years.
